Caring and Storing Contact Lenses

When it comes to contact lenses the choices are many, if you are a relatively new user, the basics of caring for lenses not only helps provide a clear vision but indirectly protects the eye as well. The last thing you want is for the lens to be uncomfortable or cause eye infections.

Modern disposable lenses are much easier to clean and maintain, the basic care regimes as instructed by your doctor should be followed in case you are using focal lenses.

Basic steps involved:

First, wash your hands, and when you’re done, make sure they’re clean and dry. Cleaning solutions can act as a conditioner and cleaning agent for lenses that are worn multiple times.

STEP 1: Place a few drops of the cleaning solution on both surfaces of the lens. Rub it for 10-20 seconds in gentle strokes

STEP 2: Rinse the contacts with more solution thoroughly for 5-10 seconds ensuring the cleaning solution is thoroughly removed.

STEP 3: Place the rinsed contact lenses in the box with the cleaning solution.

Leave it soaked for at least 4 hours. (Note: Use a fresh solution each time)

Always inspect the lens before you wear it on your eye, there could always be minute dust particles that could have crept in.

Storage:
If you are not wearing the contact lens, make sure it is stored in the lens case to avoid any dust residue. Usually lenses can be stored in an unopened box for up to 30 days, if you are planning to store them for longer make sure they are cleaned according to the steps above to ensure efficient storage.
